THE ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE

.It was one of the most dramatic convention days the democrats have had in years…first Hillary Clinton’s motion to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation…then Bill Clinton’s speech…the first time he’s made a full campaign endorsement for Obama…then Joe Biden, then Barack Obama himself walking out on stage to make a few comments…reflecting again his campaign of change…..out with the old idea of candidates not showing up until the final day for the acceptance speech…it’s the second time Obama has spoken to the delegates at the convention…Monday night by satellite from Kansas city after Michelle Obama spoke, and then last night on stage after Joe Biden. But Thursday's speech is the big moment for him…expectations are high…failure to live up to them could be a problem for the candidate..and the party .

Who is Dick Helton...and Why Does He Have a Blog?

Christian
Dick you stated that you look forward to the time when people other than Christians can be president--they can now--but this country was founded primarily by Christians who wanted break away by from the yoke of King George's state church. We are endowed by our Creator with our inalienable rights...there's a whole Christian strain running through our beliefs..that's why an atheist has little chance to be president...because he thinks that some of our beliefs are just so much foolishness/fairy tales. He just ain't gonna get the votes Dick.

Non-Christian, spiritual
I agree that an atheist will never be elected as President; however, this country's bias toward organized Christian religion may deprive us of a strong leader who, while non-Christian, may be spiritual, moral, and tolerant but unaccepted due to our religious prejudice. Could this country which touts freedom of religion accept a Muslim, Buddhist or non-demoninational leader ?

Nice jab, Dick
I just hope you hadn't had your coffee yet, Dick- Just this morning, when you and another who was taking part in your discussion were chatting about the election, and kind of marveling about how McCain was actually up in the polls a bit (even though it should be noted this occurred when Obama was on vacation...), and then you said something like:"And I've been receiving emails saying that Obama's been taking some of his money from offshore accounts..." in hushed tones. All you forgot was to whisper: ".. and did you know? - He's black..." Of course you're getting emails that Obama is doing every scurrilous thing imaginable- but maybe you should check it out before repeating it! I've gotten emails complaining about him not putting his hand over his heart when saying the pledge, ones claiming he's an arab, he's a muslim,. All intentional misinformation (lies.) I've heard the hysterical right wing claim he gives his wife "the terrorist jab" in public when using the common gen-x substitute for a handshake, and more. These are the tactics of the political right, so if you want us to regard your news organization as another of their tools, be careful with the subtle smear jobs. And I see a lot more critical scrutiny of Obama than McCain- Where are the incredulous and hushed questions about McCain's legendary bad temper, calling his wife the"c" word in public, and making one false claim and flip-flop after another? You guys are a bunch of weak-kneed pushovers! I've been listening to you guys for only about 35 years now, and I really expect a little more. -Paul Ryan

nobody or somebody?
Obama needs a VP who is older, seasoned, with alot of knowledge. Mrs. Clinton actually is the best pick he could make. On Saturday will anyone know who the VP is?? Will we need to be educated?? No weak picks allowed!! The general public must know who the person is- right away- no training or explanations! wm

Jumping Ahead
What is the status of electronic voting? What percentage of the United States is voting electronic? Does Ohio get to vote electronic again? Or as punishment Ohio does NOT get to vote this time. Well I don't trust the electronic vote- not one bit. Software 'issues', virus problems, broken promises. If the November vote is anywhere near a tie, Obama will lose. Ugly but true. Federal and State governments need watchdogs- the general public, counting and paying attention. It's too important to let the supreme court decide or be swayed. A free country needs free, honest elections. Brinks trucks please, more press please. wm elections.
